Their purple color comes from its aluminum and iron properties and can range from pink to a dark purple. This popular gemstone originated in ancient Greek times. Now, higher quality amethyst is mainly found in Brazil and Uruguay but can be found all over the world, including the United States. Hematite is an iron oxide that is formed through various geological processes including weathering, sedimentation, metamorphism, and hydrothermal activity. The red color in this variation of hematite comes from white light interacting with irregular hematite particles.
